Elden Ring Nightreign Update 1.6 Live — New Boss Rush Mode, Weapon Balance Overhaul & More

FromSoftware has rolled out Elden Ring Nightreign update 1.6, introducing a highly anticipated Boss Rush mode, sweeping weapon balance changes, and several quality-of-life improvements. The patch also includes new details on the upcoming Duskbloods expansion.

FromSoftware has released Elden Ring Nightreign update 1.6 across all platforms, bringing significant new content and balance changes to the Tarnished Edition experience. This marks the largest content update since the Tarnished Edition launched earlier this year.

Boss Rush Mode — The Ultimate Test of Skill

The headline feature of update 1.6 is the new Boss Rush mode, accessible from Roundtable Hold after completing the base game at least once. This mode allows players to fight a consecutive series of boss encounters without any breaks in between. Players can choose from three difficulty tiers: Standard (5 bosses), Nightmare (10 bosses), and the nightmarish Gauntlet (all 30+ major bosses in sequence).

Each tier offers escalating rewards. Completing the Standard tier awards unique cosmetic items such as the "Golden Crown of Champions" and new weapon skins. The Nightmare tier unlocks exclusive Talismans with powerful effects, while completing the Gauntlet tier grants the ultimate prize — the "Remembrance of the Eternal" — which can be exchanged for a legendary weapon or incantation.

Perhaps most exciting for competitive players, Boss Rush mode includes a global leaderboard tracking completion time across all platforms. This has already sparked intense competition within the Elden Ring speedrunning community.

Weapon Balance Overhaul

Patch 1.6 brings comprehensive weapon balance adjustments that are reshaping the meta. Colossal weapons have received a notable damage increase of approximately 12%, along with faster swing animations, making them more viable in PvE and PvP scenarios. Straight swords and curved swords, which dominated the previous meta, have seen slight damage reductions and increased stamina consumption.

Ashes of War have also received significant attention. Underused abilities like "Spectral Lance" and "Flame Dance" have been buffed with reduced FP cost and improved damage scaling. Meanwhile, overperforming options such as "Bloodhound's Step" and "Lion's Claw" have been adjusted to require more precise timing.

Sorceries and Incantations are not left out either. Several Academy of Raya Lucaria sorceries now have faster cast times, while Dragon Communion incantations have received a boost to their faith scaling.

Duskbloods Expansion Update

In addition to the patch notes, FromSoftware shared a brief update on the highly anticipated "Duskbloods" expansion. According to a post on the official Elden Ring social media channels, development of the Duskbloods expansion is progressing smoothly and the team is currently in the final polishing phase. While no specific release date was announced, the update suggests that the expansion is on track for a late 2026 release window.

Rumors circulating within the community, fueled by dataminers who have combed through the 1.6 patch files, hint that Duskbloods may introduce a completely new region south of the Weeping Peninsula, potentially linked to the mysterious "Land of Shadow" referenced in item descriptions throughout the base game.

Elden Ring Nightreign continues to thrive more than four years after its original release. With the substantial 1.6 update and the Duskbloods expansion on the horizon, FromSoftware has demonstrated once again why the Lands Between remains one of the most beloved worlds in modern gaming.
