Bandai Namco Hints at Elden Ring Franchise Expansion Beyond Video Games

The publisher's latest corporate strategy report suggests the Lands Between may soon expand into anime, merchandise, and spin-off titles.

Bandai Namco's recently published corporate strategy report for the 2026 fiscal year has sent ripples through the gaming community. Buried within the document's "IP Axis Strategy" section is a significant revelation: the Elden Ring brand is being positioned for expansion beyond traditional video games, potentially into anime adaptations, merchandise lines, and even spin-off titles developed by external studios.

The report, released on June 1, outlines Bandai Namco's long-term vision for its most valuable IPs. Under a dedicated section titled "Global Franchise Development," Elden Ring is listed alongside the company's other pillar franchises — including the Tekken and Dark Souls series — with explicit mention of "multi-media expansion opportunities." This marks the first time the publisher has publicly acknowledged ambitions to grow the Elden Ring brand beyond interactive entertainment.

According to the strategy document, Bandai Namco is exploring "narrative-driven animated content" based on the world of Elden Ring, which industry insiders interpret as a strong signal that an anime adaptation or an animated film is under serious consideration. The rich lore of the Lands Between, crafted in collaboration with George R.R. Martin, provides an exceptionally fertile foundation for animated storytelling — indeed, fans have been clamoring for such an adaptation since the game's original launch in 2022.

The report also hints at a significantly expanded merchandising program. While Elden Ring has already seen a limited range of collectibles and statues, Bandai Namco now appears to be planning a comprehensive lineup covering apparel, figurines, art books, and lifestyle products. Given the enormous success of FromSoftware titles in the collector's market — where premium statues and limited-edition items routinely sell out within hours — this move seems both logical and long overdue.

Perhaps most intriguingly, the strategy document leaves the door open for spin-off video game titles developed by studios other than FromSoftware. This mirrors Bandai Namco's approach with the Dark Souls brand, which has remained exclusively with FromSoftware, but also references the company's recent success in licensing its IPs to external developers. Whether this means a potential mobile game, a rhythm game, or a completely new genre interpretation of the Elden Ring universe remains to be seen.

Notably, the report references "the momentum generated by Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition" as a catalyst for these expansion plans. The upcoming Switch 2 release and The Duskbloods PvPvE title have clearly reinforced Bandai Namco and FromSoftware's confidence in the brand's longevity. The Tarnished Edition, expected later this year, will introduce the franchise to an entirely new Nintendo audience, widening the potential consumer base for any multi-media ventures.

For Elden Ring fans, this news signals that the journey through the Lands Between is only just beginning — even if the next chapter takes unexpected forms. We'll be tracking every development and updating our Elden Ring section with the latest franchise news.
