Epic Games rolls out the first major content update since Chapter 7's record-breaking launch. The Loki multi-verse event continues with new quest stages while a fan-favorite weapon makes its return to the Neon City loot pool.
One week after Fortnite Chapter 7's launch shattered franchise records with 50 million unique players, Epic Games has deployed the season's first major content update. While the Neon City map and UE6-powered visuals continue to receive praise from the community, the Week 2 update brings significant new content and balance changes.
▎Loki: Multiverse of Mayhem — Phase 2
The Loki mini-event that launched alongside Chapter 7 enters its second phase. New quest stages have been activated, tasking players with collecting TemPad fragments scattered across the Neon City districts. Completing all Phase 2 quests rewards players with a new "Classic Loki" variant outfit featuring the character's iconic horned helmet from the comics — a cosmetic that dataminers had speculated about but weren't sure would ship in this update.
The TemPad Mythic item has also received a buff — its "reality shift" teleport ability's cooldown has been reduced from 20 seconds to 15 seconds, making it a more viable option for aggressive playstyles. Epic notes that this change is in response to feedback that the Mythic felt underwhelming compared to its build-up in the event narrative.
▎Weapon Unvaulting: The Heavy Shotgun Returns
In a move that has split the competitive community, Epic has unvaulted the Heavy Shotgun for Chapter 7. The weapon, which last appeared in Chapter 5 Season 1, now fires a tighter pellet spread with a slightly reduced fire rate compared to its previous iteration. Early impressions suggest it fills a niche between the Thunder Shotgun's raw power and the Frenzy Auto Shotgun's rapid-fire capability. Competitive players are already debating whether the Heavy Shotgun's return will disrupt the established Neon City meta, where Pulse Rifles and SMGs have dominated the first week.
Alongside the unvaulting, the Combat SMG has received a slight damage reduction at long range (15% falloff increase beyond 25 meters), addressing concerns that the weapon's accuracy at distance made it an effective pseudo-AR. Epic also announced the schedule for the first Chapter 7 FNCS (Fortnite Champion Series) qualifiers. Registration opens August 1, with the first qualifier weekend running August 7-9. The tournament will feature the new Trios format that debuted in Chapter 6's finale, with wall-running enabled and the Digital Duel mode excluded from competitive rotation. The prize pool has been confirmed at $5 million.
