Fortnite Ch6 S3 Week 2 Update Adds Heist Vaults, Mythic Weapons and Tactical Gadgets

Epic Games rolls out the first major update for Chapter 6 Season 3, adding interactive heist vaults across the map, new mythic-tier weapons and deployable tactical gadgets that change the mid-season meta.

Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 3 has received its first major content update, and it's a substantial one. Following the season's explosive launch centered around the "Heist Protocol" theme, Epic Games has deployed the Week 2 update that adds fully interactive vault locations across the island, complete with cracking mechanics, alarm systems, and exclusive mythic-tier loot for players daring enough to take on the challenge.

The new Heist Vaults are dispersed across five key locations on the Chapter 6 map, each guarded by a security system that requires coordination to bypass. Players must first locate a Vault Keycard — dropped by a new NPC type called the "Security Chief" — and then successfully crack the vault within a limited window before reinforcements arrive. The alarm phase triggers a visible alert on the map for all players, creating high-risk, high-reward scenarios that have already become a highlight of the season for aggressive playstyles.

Inside each vault, players will find the new Mythic Heist Breach Shotgun and Mythic Lockpick SMG, two weapons that dominate in close-quarters combat. The Breach Shotgun features a unique door-breaching secondary fire that can create new sight lines through builds, while the Lockpick SMG deals bonus damage to structures — a potent combination for aggressive pushes in the final circles. Data from the first 24 hours of the update shows these weapons have a pick rate of over 40% among players who successfully raid a vault.

The update also adds three new tactical gadgets to the loot pool: the Smoke Drone (a deployable aerial cover device that follows the player), the Grapple Glove (a single-use mobility item with a 20-meter reach), and the Audio Decoy (which projects footstep sounds to confuse opponents). Early meta analysis suggests the Grapple Glove is already being incorporated into competitive rotations, while the Smoke Drone is finding favor in squad play for repositioning under cover.

On the competitive side, Epic Games has confirmed that the upcoming FNCS Major 3 will incorporate the new heist mechanics, with a modified scoring system that rewards vault captures alongside elimination and placement points. The competitive community has responded positively, praising the addition of objective-based scoring that reduces the emphasis on pure eliminations.

With a rumored film franchise collaboration still on the horizon and the Week 2 update already shifting the meta, Chapter 6 Season 3 is shaping up to be one of Fortnite's most dynamic seasons yet. Players can expect more Heist-themed content drops throughout the season, including a limited-time mode that will pit four teams of four in a competitive vault-cracking race.
