RE:9 Requiem Update 2.0 — Mercenaries Leaderboard Records Shattered, New Game Plus+ Strategies Emerge

Since the landmark Update 2.0 went live, the Mercenaries mode leaderboards have been completely rewritten. Players are pushing score boundaries never thought possible with the new tiered enemy spawning system, while Capcom's New Game Plus+ mode reveals hidden strategic depths in Leon's expanded campaign chapters.

Capcom's monumental free update for Resident Evil 9: Requiem has achieved more than driving a 40% player return — it has fundamentally transformed how the community engages with the game's endgame content. Forty-eight hours after the patch dropped, the Mercenaries mode leaderboards have been completely reset, with top players posting scores that would have seemed impossible just a week ago.

The key driver of this revolution is the new tiered enemy spawning system introduced in Update 2.0. Rather than the traditional fixed-wave structure, the enhanced Mercenaries mode now dynamically adjusts enemy composition based on player performance. A player who maintains a high combo multiplier will face progressively tougher enemies — including special Mutant variants that previously only appeared in the main campaign — but each kill in these high-difficulty waves awards exponentially more points. The risk-reward calculus has created a deep strategic layer that rewards veterans who can balance aggressive scoring with survival instincts.

Leon's expanded campaign chapters, the other marquee feature of Update 2.0, have proven to be more than just a nostalgic bonus. The four new chapters bridge the narrative gap between the base game's climax and its epilogue, featuring a return to the series' survival horror roots with limited ammunition and claustrophobic corridor encounters. Early community reception has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the chapters for recapturing the tense atmosphere of RE2's Raccoon City while maintaining the refined combat mechanics of RE9.

New Game Plus+ has added yet another layer of replayability. Players who complete the game on any difficulty can now carry over their weapons and upgrades into a harder playthrough with remixed enemy placements and exclusive unlockable skills. The most coveted NG+ reward is the "Infinite Rocket Launcher" — a series staple — which requires completing the campaign on Inferno difficulty within a time limit. Speedrunners have already begun optimizing routes, with the current world record standing at an impressive 1 hour 47 minutes for a full NG+ Inferno clear.

The community has also discovered several undocumented changes in Update 2.0. The parry window for critical attacks has been slightly increased, making aggressive defensive play more viable. Certain boss weak points now have additional stagger properties, and the Duke's shop has been updated with new weapon customization options previously locked behind challenge modes.

Looking ahead, Capcom has confirmed that a paid story DLC expansion is in development, though no release window has been announced. For now, the Update 2.0 content — entirely free for all RE:9 Requiem owners — provides more than enough challenge to keep even the most seasoned survivors occupied for weeks to come.
