Capcom delivers the biggest free content update yet for RE:9, doubling down on replayability with new modes and expanded story content.
Capcom has released Update 2.0 for Resident Evil 9: Requiem, the largest free content drop since the game's launch. The headline addition is the brand new New Game Plus+ mode, which builds on the standard NG+ experience by introducing dynamic enemy placement, altered item locations, and a harder "Requiem" difficulty that changes boss attack patterns.
But the most exciting addition for longtime fans is the expanded Leon S. Kennedy campaign chapters. Previously only available as a separate side mode, Leon's storyline has now been fully integrated into the main campaign flow. Two new chapters — set in a flooded underground research facility and an abandoned cathedral — bridge the gap between Leon's narrative and Grace's primary story. These chapters add approximately 90 minutes of gameplay and include new cutscenes that shed light on the connections between the two protagonists.
Alongside the new campaign content, Update 2.0 introduces a new Mercenaries map set in the Requiem version of Raccoon City, featuring brand new enemy types and environmental hazards. The fan-favorite "Doomsday Grace" skin has also been updated with additional color variants unlockable through Mercenaries mode challenges.
The update is available now as a free download on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Capcom has also confirmed that a third content update is in development, with details expected to be shared at Gamescom later this year.
