Capcom delivers on its promises with a massive content update that expands replayability and refines the survival horror experience.
Capcom's highly anticipated June 10 content update for Resident Evil 9: Requiem has officially gone live across all platforms, bringing the community's most requested features in a substantial patch that weighs in at over 12 GB. The update centers around two major additions: a fully featured New Game+ mode and three new Mercenaries stages.
New Game+ mode allows players to carry forward all weapons, upgrades, and collectibles from their completed save into a fresh playthrough. Capcom has introduced exclusive rewards for NG+ players — including a new "Infinite Rocket Launcher" unlockable after completing the game on Professional difficulty — as well as significantly harder enemy placements that veteran players have been craving. Perhaps most notably, the NG+ mode includes a branching narrative element: players who achieved a certain rank in the Mercenaries mode will unlock an alternate cutscene during the game's final act, hinting at potential story directions for future DLC.
The Mercenaries mode receives three new stages in this update: "Sunken Cathedral," set in the flooded ruins of the game's fourth chapter; "Chemical Plant," a claustrophobic multi-level facility filled with toxic hazards; and "Graveyard Shift," a night-time outdoor arena swarming with relentless enemies. Each stage features unique environmental hazards that force players to adapt their strategies beyond simple target prioritization.
Alongside these headline features, the update delivers a host of gameplay improvements. Capcom has addressed numerous community-reported issues including adjusted enemy spawn rates in Chapter 6, improved flashlight rendering in dark environments, and a fix for the notorious audio desync bug that affected cutscenes on PC. Additionally, the update introduces AMD FSR 3.0 support for PC players, promising significantly better performance on mid-range hardware.
"This is our biggest post-launch update, but it's just the beginning," said the RE:9 development team in the official patch notes. "We have more content planned for the months ahead, and we're listening closely to what the community wants next." With this update now live, the stage is set for the next chapter of Resident Evil 9: Requiem, and Capcom's commitment to post-launch support suggests the survival horror journey is far from over.
