Capcom officially announces a Halloween seasonal event for RE:9 Requiem, featuring exclusive character cosmetics, a limited-time 'Nightmare Survival' mode, special enemy variants, and community challenges with unique rewards. Running throughout October 2026.
After weeks of teasers and cryptic social media posts, Capcom has finally pulled back the curtain on RE:9 Requiem's Halloween event plans. The seasonal content drop — officially titled "Requiem: Nightmare" — will launch on October 1 and run through October 31, bringing a significant amount of new content to the game that has been sustaining impressive player numbers since the Update 2.0 overhaul.
▎Nightmare Survival Mode
The centerpiece of the Halloween event is "Nightmare Survival," a limited-time Mercenaries variant that introduces roguelike elements to the beloved arcade mode. In Nightmare Survival, players choose a character and face increasingly difficult waves of enemies across a curated selection of maps — but with a twist. Between waves, players can select from three random "Nightmare Modifiers" that apply buffs to enemies or debuffs to the player in exchange for a score multiplier.
For example, one modifier might make all enemy heads explode into toxic gas clouds when shot (increasing difficulty), while another might give Leon's knife attacks a 200% damage bonus (providing a counterbalancing advantage). The risk-reward system is designed to push players toward ever more aggressive playstyles, with the highest score multipliers reserved for combinations of the most punishing modifiers. Capcom describes it as "Mercenaries meets roguelike strategy" — an apt description for a mode that could breathe even more life into RE:9's already thriving endgame.
▎Exclusive Halloween Cosmetics
The event brings a full set of Halloween-themed character skins and weapon charms. Leon Kennedy receives a "Vampire Hunter" outfit that reimagines his RE:9 tactical gear with gothic Victorian styling, complete with a silver-tipped crossbow replacing his standard knife. Jill Valentine — playable in Mercenaries since Update 2.0 — gets a "Witch Hunter" ensemble inspired by her classic RE:3 look but with puritan-inspired coat and wide-brimmed hat.
The standout cosmetic, however, belongs to Ada Wong. Her "Dark Orchid" outfit is a black-and-purple variant of her iconic red dress from the main campaign, adorned with subtle orchid embroidery and a masquerade mask. Capcom confirmed that the cosmetics will be earnable through the event's "Nightmare Pass" — a free reward track that progresses based on cumulative Nightmare Survival score milestones. A premium tier with additional weapon skins and exclusive weapon charms will also be available for purchase.
▎Special Enemy Variants
Throughout October, standard enemies in both the main campaign and Mercenaries mode will be joined by limited-time "Nightmare Variants." These special enemies feature increased health, new attack patterns, and glowing orange weak points. The variants include "Blighted Ganados" (infected enemies that release insect swarms on death), "Phantom Molded" (semi-transparent enemies that are harder to detect), and "Necro Executioners" (heavily armored chainsaw-wielding brutes that require precision weak-point targeting). Defeating these variants awards bonus event currency and exclusive cosmetic charms.
▎Community Challenges
Capcom also outlined a series of global community challenges tied to the event. If the player base collectively eliminates 50 million Nightmare Variants during October, all participants will unlock a special "Midnight Requiem" weapon charm — a miniature glowing jack-o'-lantern that dangles from equipped firearms. Additional stretch targets at 100 million and 200 million eliminations unlock extra rewards including exclusive titles and weapon nameplates.
