One month after the landmark Update 2.0 launch, Resident Evil 9: Requiem's player base continues to hold strong at 3x pre-update levels. Capcom has now begun teasing the next major content drop, hinting at a Halloween-themed seasonal event that could arrive as early as October 2026.
In a community update posted earlier this week, Capcom acknowledged the "incredible support" from the RE:9 community and confirmed that the development team is hard at work on the game's next major content update. While specific details remain under wraps, the post prominently featured Halloween imagery—jack-o'-lanterns, foggy cemetery landscapes, and the iconic Resident Evil mansion silhouette—strongly suggesting that the RE Engine team is preparing a spooky seasonal celebration.
Update 2.0's ongoing impact cannot be overstated. Since its June 19 release, the free update—which introduced New Game+ mode, two new Leon campaign chapters, and expanded Mercenaries content—has driven RE:9 Requiem's Steam concurrent player count to sustained levels above 75,000 peak daily. The Mercenaries mode, in particular, has become a competitive powerhouse, with the leaderboard race toward the 6-million-point barrier attracting both casual and hardcore players.
According to Capcom's internal data shared during the company's latest fiscal briefing, RE:9 Requiem has now shipped over 9 million copies worldwide—a remarkable achievement that positions it as the second fastest-selling game in the franchise's history, behind only Resident Evil 7 at launch. The company credited Update 2.0's strong reception for a "meaningful" increase in digital sales during the month of July.
Looking beyond Halloween, Capcom's previously announced premium story DLC remains in active development. While specific plot details are being kept closely guarded, voice actor Nick Apostolides (Leon S. Kennedy) was spotted at Capcom's Osaka headquarters in late May, leading to widespread speculation about Leon's expanded role in the upcoming story content. Community surveys conducted last month also indicated strong demand for additional Mercenaries characters and a return to survival horror roots for Resident Evil 10.
Separately, the recently confirmed Code Veronica Remake is expected to receive its first full gameplay showcase at gamescom 2026 in August. Capcom has confirmed that RE:9 Requiem will have a playable presence at the event, giving fans a hands-on opportunity to try the game's latest content ahead of the Halloween season.
