Capcom officially confirms that paid story DLC for RE:9 Requiem is in active development, bringing a new campaign chapter and expanded Mercenaries mode expected this holiday season.
Capcom has officially announced that a premium story DLC for Resident Evil 9: Requiem is currently in active development. The confirmation came during a special Capcom investor presentation held on June 1, where the company outlined its content roadmap for the remainder of 2026 and beyond. According to the presentation, the DLC will include a brand-new campaign chapter and substantial additions to the popular Mercenaries mode, with a target release window of late 2026 — just in time for the holiday season.
This marks the first official confirmation of paid story DLC for RE:9, following weeks of speculation fueled by Leon S. Kennedy voice actor Nick Apostolides' mysterious visit to Capcom HQ last week. While fans had hoped for such an announcement, the scope of the DLC appears to exceed initial expectations. Capcom has not yet disclosed pricing, but industry analysts project a $19.99–$29.99 price point based on the company's recent DLC pricing strategy for major titles.
The new campaign chapter is rumored to continue Grace Ashcroft's story following the events of the main game's multiple endings. While Capcom remained tight-lipped about narrative details, the presentation included concept art suggesting a return to Raccoon City — or at least a location heavily inspired by the iconic setting. Longtime franchise fans will recall that Raccoon City was destroyed in a nuclear strike during the events of Resident Evil 3 (1999 original / 2020 remake), so a return would represent a significant narrative development for the series.
On the gameplay front, the DLC will introduce new Mercenaries mode content including additional playable characters, stages, and enemy types. Capcom specifically highlighted that the Mercenaries expansion would be available both as part of the premium DLC bundle and potentially as a separate purchase for players who only want the arcade-mode content. This follows a pattern similar to RE:4 Remake's Separate Ways DLC and Mercenaries expansions, suggesting Capcom has found a winning formula for post-launch content delivery.
Additionally, Capcom confirmed that a free update would accompany the DLC launch, bringing quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes for the base game. The update is expected to include performance optimizations for all platforms, as well as additional accessibility options that the community has been requesting since launch. The company also hinted at a "surprise" feature for the base game that would be revealed closer to the DLC's release date.
RE:9 Requiem has been a massive commercial success for Capcom, having surpassed 8 million copies sold worldwide since its release. The DLC announcement is seen as part of Capcom's broader strategy to extend the title's lifecycle ahead of the next mainline entry — likely Resident Evil 10, which was teased in their 5-year roadmap revealed earlier this month. For now, fans of Grace, Leon, and the RE:9 world have plenty to look forward to this holiday season.
