Code Veronica Remake Announced at Summer Game Fest — RE:9 Requiem June 10 Update Nears

Capcom delivered one of the biggest surprises at Summer Game Fest 2026 this morning: the long-rumored Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake has been officially confirmed. The announcement came during the SGF main stage presentation, with a cinematic teaser that sent shockwaves through the survival horror community.

The teaser showcased the iconic Rockfort Island prison facility, rendered in Capcom's RE Engine with stunning visual fidelity. Claire Redfield and Steve Burnside make their return, with the teaser heavily emphasizing the psychological horror elements that made the original a cult classic. A release window of early 2027 was confirmed, aligning with Capcom's previously announced 5-year Resident Evil roadmap.

For RE:9 Requiem players, this news comes alongside anticipation for the massive June 10 update arriving in just four days. The update will introduce New Game+ mode, an expanded Mercenaries mode featuring Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine, and multiple new stages. Capcom used the SGF stage to confirm that the update will also include a new "Nightmare" difficulty tier for players seeking the ultimate challenge.

In a post-showcase interview, producer Masato Kase elaborated on the decision to remake Code Veronica: "We've heard the fans loud and clear. Code Veronica has long been the missing piece in our Remake series. With the RE Engine more powerful than ever, we felt now was the perfect time to bring this story to a new generation."

The Code Veronica remake announcement also sheds light on Capcom's broader strategy for the franchise. With RE:9 Requiem having surpassed 8 million copies sold, the company is clearly committed to maintaining momentum through a combination of new releases, remakes, and substantial post-launch content for existing titles.

More details about the Code Veronica remake — including gameplay footage and a concrete release date — are expected at the Tokyo Game Show later this year.
