MW4 Beta Pre-Load Numbers Break Records — Industry Analysts Predict Biggest Call of Duty Launch Ever

The beta pre-load for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 went live on June 26, and the numbers coming in are staggering — already the most pre-loaded COD beta in franchise history within the first 24 hours.

Infinity Ward and Activision have every reason to celebrate. The beta pre-load for Modern Warfare 4, which opened across all platforms on June 26, has shattered franchise records with over 8 million downloads in the first 24 hours alone. This figure surpasses the previous record holder — Modern Warfare III (2023) — by a margin of 35%, signaling that MW4 is on track to become the best-selling Call of Duty title ever.

"The pre-load numbers are unprecedented," said Daniel Ahmad, senior analyst at Niko Partners. "Combine this with the $120 Vault Edition selling out at multiple retailers, and it's clear that Infinity Ward has struck a chord with the community. The decision to offer a pure solo campaign with no forced Warzone integration has clearly paid dividends in rebuilding trust with lapsed players."

The beta itself is scheduled in two phases: early access for pre-order customers begins July 10, followed by an open beta for all players on July 17-20. Pre-loading now ensures that players can jump straight into the action on day one without waiting for downloads. The beta will feature a selection of core multiplayer maps, including remastered versions of iconic classics like Rust and Terminal, alongside new maps built for the IW 10.0 engine's omni-directional movement system.

Infinity Ward also dropped a surprise on Friday: a new campaign teaser trailer revealed during the Xbox Extended Showcase. The teaser confirms that Task Force 141 — including Captain Price, Ghost, and new recruit Park — will return to the Middle East for an operation that takes place in a sprawling, war-torn urban environment. The trailer showcases branching mission structures, a first for the Modern Warfare series, allowing players to choose their approach to objectives with visible consequences on subsequent missions.

On the technical side, the IW 10.0 engine is being put through its paces during the pre-load phase. The full game clocks in at approximately 180GB on PC and PS5, with optimization options including texture streaming to reduce the initial download size. The Switch 2 version, confirmed at the game's reveal, will feature a tailored 60GB package with adjusted texture resolution.

With pre-orders already exceeding Activision's internal projections by 35% and the Vault Edition sold out at major retailers, the hype train for Modern Warfare 4 shows no signs of slowing down. The full game is scheduled to launch on November 6, 2026, across PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. If the pre-load numbers are any indication, November 6 could see the biggest day-one player influx in Call of Duty history.
