Following the record-breaking open beta with 20M players, Infinity Ward details day-one patch changes including omnimovement slide nerf, TTK increase, map visibility fixes, and Gunsmith 2.0 refinements.
With the Modern Warfare 4 open beta now in the rearview mirror, Infinity Ward has released a comprehensive post-beta feedback response detailing the changes coming in the day-one patch. The beta, which attracted 20 million unique players and generated 180 million matches played, has provided the development team with an unprecedented volume of telemetry and player feedback.
The most significant change confirmed for launch is a nerf to the omnimovement slide. Beta players discovered that the slide-cancel maneuver — performed by rapidly chaining slides into tactical sprints — created an unpredictable movement meta that many found frustrating to track. Infinity Ward is adjusting the slide recovery animation by 80ms and introducing a short stamina penalty after three consecutive slides. "We want omni-movement to feel fluid and skill-expressive," the studio stated, "but the slide-cancel chain created engagement distances that were too difficult to read."
The time-to-kill (TTK) is also receiving a slight increase across most weapon categories. Data showed that the KV Broadside shotgun and the MCX Spear battle rifle were overperforming, with TTK values 15% below the intended sweet spot. The day-one patch will increase the minimum time-to-kill by approximately 25ms for automatic weapons and 40ms for shotguns, giving defenders more reaction time in close-quarters engagements.
Gunsmith 2.0 is receiving several quality-of-life improvements based on beta feedback. The attachment preview system will now include real-time damage range and recoil pattern overlays, making it easier to compare builds without leaving the menu. Additionally, the 10-slot attachment system will see a rebalance of attachment penalties — particularly for barrel attachments that were universally seen as mandatory rather than situational choices.
Map-specific fixes include improved visibility on Substation (which was criticized for its dark interior sightlines), additional cover on Night Market's rooftop pathways, and spawn logic adjustments across all eight core maps. Infinity Ward also confirmed that the Kill Block mode — the standout new game mode revealed at Fanatics Fest — will receive dedicated playlists at launch, alongside standard modes like Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Hardpoint.
Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for a full release on November 6, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
