MW4 Beta Registration Explodes — Pre-Order Numbers Shatter Call of Duty Records

Activision has announced that Modern Warfare 4 beta registration has surpassed 15 million players, making it the most anticipated beta in Call of Duty franchise history. Pre-order numbers have shattered previous records as excitement for Infinity Ward's next installment reaches fever pitch.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases of 2026. Activision confirmed in a press release today that beta registrations have exceeded 15 million across all platforms, a new franchise record. Combined with the recently announced pre-order numbers, MW4 is tracking significantly ahead of Modern Warfare II (2022) and Modern Warfare III (2023) at comparable points in their pre-launch cycles.

Beta Dates Confirmed

The MW4 multiplayer beta will roll out in two phases. PlayStation users get first access from August 14-16, followed by an open beta for all platforms (including PC and Xbox) from August 21-25. Pre-order customers on any platform receive early access to the first beta weekend. The beta will feature six maps from the final game, including three brand-new environments and three reimagined classics from the Modern Warfare series.

Infinity Ward has promised that the beta build represents a near-final version of the game's core multiplayer experience. Players will have access to 12 weapons across all five weapon categories, the new "Tactical Sprint 2.0" movement system, and several of the new "Field Upgrade+" abilities that have been teased in recent developer blogs.

Pre-Order Momentum Unprecedented

Industry analysts point to several factors driving MW4's record-breaking pre-order performance. The return of fan-favorite characters Captain Price, Gaz, and Farah from the Modern Warfare reboot series has generated enormous nostalgia-driven interest. Additionally, the promise of a unified Warzone experience — where MW4's weapons and operators carry over to the battle royale mode — has addressed one of the community's most persistent requests.

The pricing strategy has also been smart. While the standard edition is priced at $69.99, the Vault Edition at $99.99 includes the full battle pass for Season 1 and 2, 10 operator skins, and exclusive weapon blueprints. According to Activision, over 40% of all pre-orders have been for the Vault Edition, indicating strong player willingness to invest in the premium experience.

Campaign Details Continue to Emerge

Infinity Ward has also released additional details about MW4's campaign. The story picks up where Modern Warfare II left off, with Task Force 141 facing a new global threat. The campaign will feature missions spanning locations in South America, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. A notable new feature is the introduction of "choice moments" — key narrative decision points that affect how subsequent missions unfold.

With the beta just weeks away and pre-order numbers continuing to climb, all signs point to Modern Warfare 4 becoming yet another blockbuster entry in the Call of Duty franchise. The FPS king shows no signs of slowing down.
