Infinity Ward confirms the multiplayer open beta begins August 14 with pre-order early access, new Omnimovement mechanics, and classic map remasters.
Infinity Ward has officially confirmed that the Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer open beta will begin on August 14, 2026, with players who pre-order any edition receiving early access starting August 12. The news came during a dedicated multiplayer reveal stream following Summer Game Fest, where the development team showcased extensive gameplay footage and detailed several core gameplay innovations.
The centerpiece of Modern Warfare 4's multiplayer is the new Omnimovement system, which Infinity Ward describes as "the most significant movement evolution since the franchise began." Players can now sprint, slide, dive, and mantle in any direction, with full momentum conservation. This means tactical sprint in any direction, dive backward to escape gunfire, slide laterally around corners, and wall-mount on any surface for improved angles. The system is designed to dramatically raise the skill ceiling while remaining accessible to casual players through simplified input options.
Infinity Ward also confirmed the return of fan-favorite maps from the original Modern Warfare trilogy, remastered with modern graphical fidelity and expanded pathways. "Rust," "Terminal," "Highrise," and "Favela" have all been confirmed for the launch map pool, alongside six brand-new maps designed specifically for the Omnimovement system. The beta will feature a curated selection of four maps including a remastered "Rust" and three new maps: "Neon Grid," "Storm Drain," and "Cargo Port."
Gunsmith returns with the most detailed customization system yet, featuring over 80 weapon platforms at launch. The new "Gunsmith 3.0" introduces caliber conversion kits — allowing players to transform an assault rifle into a DMR or an SMG into an AR — as well as enhanced attachment visual feedback where each modification is visible on the weapon model in real-time.
Pre-order bonuses include the "Shadow Company" operator pack, a weapon blueprint for the iconic M4A1, and double XP tokens usable during the beta period. Standard open beta access begins August 14 across all platforms, with cross-play and cross-progression fully supported from day one. The full game is slated for an October 2026 launch, positioning it well ahead of November's GTA 6 release.
