MW4 Open Beta 3 Days Away — Final Countdown, Day-One Patch and Map Rotation Revealed

With early access for pre-order players beginning July 10 and the open beta following on July 17, Infinity Ward unveils the final map rotation, Gunsmith 2.0 details, and a substantial day-one beta patch.

The wait is almost over. With just three days remaining until the early access beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 kicks off on July 10, Infinity Ward has released a final information dump covering the beta's complete map rotation, confirmed weapon roster, and a substantial day-one patch that will go live alongside the beta client.

Infinity Ward confirmed that the beta will feature a rotation of 8 maps over its two-week run — 6 core 6v6 maps and 2 larger Ground War maps. The initial July 10-16 early access window (available to all pre-order customers) will launch with 5 maps, with the remaining 3 maps rotating in when the open beta begins on July 17 for all players across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The confirmed day-one beta patch is notably large, clocking in at approximately 28 GB across all platforms. Infinity Ward explained that the patch includes additional texture quality improvements, refined omnimovement animations, and the Gunsmith 2.0 system that allows players to fine-tune weapon handling through 10 attachment slots. "We wanted the beta to represent the closest possible experience to the final November 6 build," the studio stated in a blog post.

Pre-load for the beta went live on June 26 and has already seen record-breaking numbers — over 8 million pre-loads in the first 24 hours alone, shattering franchise records. With three days still remaining before the first match goes live, Infinity Ward confirmed that pre-loads have now surpassed 14 million globally, a figure that has analysts predicting the most successful Call of Duty beta in history.

The beta will feature the brand-new Omnimovement system, allowing players to sprint, slide, and dive in any direction. Early hands-on previews from content creators who attended Infinity Ward's preview event have been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the fluidity of the movement system and the satisfying feedback of the redesigned weapon handling.

Infinity Ward also confirmed that cross-play and cross-progression will be fully functional during the beta, meaning players on all platforms can squad up and carry their unlocked weapon progress into the full game at launch. The beta will also introduce a new 6v6 mode called "Breach," a tactical round-based mode where defenders secure objectives and attackers must breach through destructible environments.

As the countdown continues, fans are advised to complete their pre-loads early and prepare for what promises to be the most ambitious Call of Duty beta to date. For complete loadout guides and MW4 coverage, visit our COD 2026 guide section.
